SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Four 1939 boxing champions were included today in the official list of 56 entries for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate boxing championships Thursday and Friday nights in Sacramento.
Coach I. F. (Crip) Toomey, California Aggie athletic director and general chairman of the tournament, announced that nine schools are entered in the tournament, including Washington State's, perennial champion; San Jose State, University of California, California Aggies at Davis, University of California at Los Angeles, University of Idaho, Oregon State college, Santa Clara, and University of San Francisco.
Only champions defending their titles will be Walter Watson, California Aggies, heavyweight, and Ben Drake, Washington State, 155 pound division.
Ted Kara, Idaho, Pacific coast and national champion in the 127 pound division, will compete in the 120 pound bantamweight division, and Jim Kincaid, San Jose, 145 pound champion, has moved into the 165 pound class.
Among fighters who were runners-up in 1939 and returning for another try are Dale Wren, San Jose State, 127; Les Coffman, Washington State, 135; Hilmer Ingebretsen, California Aggies, 155; Carl Larson, Oregon State, 175, and Al Passii, Idaho, heavyweight.
