Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire

What is this article about?

An anonymous writer, who submitted a piece under 'Vox Populi' to Mr. Gerrish's press, contradicts claims in the Gazette by Mr. Gerrish and 'The voice of the injured.' Full Text

THE person who handed a piece to Mr. Gerrish's press, under the signature of Vox Populi, whose name though entrusted as a secret with Mr. Gerrish, has escaped from his office, takes this opportunity in contradiction to assertions made by Mr. Gerrish, and an author under the signature of The voice of the injured, in the last Gazette, to declare that he did not understand from any thing that Mr. Gerrish told him at the time, that any particular person was not the author of an infamous publication in the Mercury, entitled the Chronicles of the Hampshireites. Mr. Gerrish said only, "you have mistaken the person, he did not write Honestus,"-- he further declares, that so far from being convinced that any one suspected, was not the Chronicler, he had never received an intimation of the kind, from any person whatever.
