Full Text

From a Gentleman in Savannah, to his friend in this City, dated, Savannah May 30th.

"It is now believed here that the U. S. troops will not evacuate Florida—Provisions are sent to them from this place in such quantities as may serve the patriots also, whose cause is gaining strength and organization. I now have the fullest expectation that the Patriots can and will firmly establish their cause and hold the Province: the Spaniards attacked the right wing of their encampment and position, with several boats carrying 9 and 12 pound cannon and a small schr. Gun boat with a 24. Col. Smith reinforced the Patriots with a detachment of the Rifle Corps; but they were obliged to give ground and retreat, leaving their camp. Gov. Mitchell has ordered several pieces of Field Artillery to be forwarded to the Camp."
