Brighthelmstone, Thursday.
Yesterday under the patronage of the nobles who have thought the liberal art of boxing worthy of patronage, three battles were fought here yesterday:--The combatants in the two first, after exhibiting a scene of butchery and bloodshed, as disgraceful to the spectators and patrons as to themselves, escaped with their lives. But the other couple, after fighting a complete hour, terminated their business in a manner more fatal,--One of them, after receiving a knock-down blow, faintly exclaimed, "I can fight no more" --and EXPIRED!
This unhappy wretch had neither wife nor family, which lessens in a certain degree the regret we should otherwise feel for the survivors--but the impression this accident must make on every good mind, will, we hope, have the effect to put an effectual stop to a custom so disgraceful to humanity, as well as to bring contempt on those who have distinguished themselves in the annals of ignominy as the patrons of boxing.
