Full Text

If it be true, as stated, that President Harrison nominated ex-Governor Thompson for civil service commissioner at the request of Mr Cleveland, we may expect to see Charles A. Dana begin to use some of his peculiar weapons of warfare against the man he helped to make president. Mr Dana was very anxious to have Truman A. Merriman appointed to the commission, and really it was a little ungrateful on the president's part to forget the services of Dana when he had a chance to make such a fitting recognition of them. But perhaps the mugwumps, blessed creatures, will rejoice to learn that Cleveland is mightier than Dana at the white house.
