LOS ANGELES--(ANP)-- Titus Alexander, prominent resident of the city, was honored recently with membership in the California Historical Society for recognition of his long-time work in the field of Negro history. President Aubrey Drury informed Mr. Alexander of his election by the Society's Board of Directors at their last meeting.
Mr. Alexander came to California in 1897, and though he has been engaged in engineering as a vocation, he has had an avocation the gathering of material on the Negro in American history and more particularly in California history. He has collaborated in providing authentic records and accounts of California history to several authors of published and unpublished manuscripts, and is compiling material for publication under his own name.
He served with Miss Miriam Matthews, Los Angeles librarian, as one of the chief researchers for the subject matter for the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance company murals which show the Negro in California.
