One Killed and Nine Injured by Them While an Asylum Fire is Fought at Elvas, Portugal.

Elvas, Portugal, Jan. 3—One person was killed and nine others seriously injured this morning by a group of five terrified maniacs who had been released by firemen from an insane asylum in the outskirts of this city, which had caught fire.

Although 35 lunatics were set free and these rushed howling through the streets for some time. Thirty of them, however, were easily gathered together and confined in the municipal building, but the other five secured some iron rods from a scrap heap and attacked every one they met. Several hours passed before they were overpowered.
