Full Text

From last week's Eagle it might be inferred that its editor, Mr. Thomas Robinson, has access to or information of correspondence passing through the post office here. This is the second instance in which it could be inferred he had knowledge of correspondence sent from the Citizen office. There is nothing regarded as more sacred than correspondence through the mails. That community is in a very unpleasant condition which has reason to fear there is incompetent or careless management of their post office matter. A post office, from its nature, as well as under and by the law, is the medium of much that is strictly of a confidential character, and no one has ever been deemed a proper person to control such office whose character for honesty and prudence was not above suspicion. Of all positions the post office is the one in which there must be carefulness and certainty in the service. That there are frequent complaints made by persons receiving their mail at the post office here is certainly not news to many of our people.
