The standing military force of the United States consists at present, of one regiment containing five battalions of artillery, consisting of twenty companies of 91 men each, including officers, &c. total number of artillerists 1820. Two regiments containing four battalions of infantry, consisting of ten companies each, (twenty companies) each company consisting of 80 men, including officers, &c.—total number of infantry 1600, General staff 4; artillery regimental staff 7; infantry regimental staff 14.

The corps of marines consists of about 1000—total regular military force of the union, four thousand four hundred and forty five.—Bost. Chron.
