"Boarded the schr. Cumberland, capt. Grennell, out 3 days from Gibraltar, bound to Alexandria, reports, that Commodore Decatur had captured two Algerine frigates, two sloops of war, and several smaller vessels. He had made a treaty, by which no tribute is to be given. The vessels taken from the Algerines were restored to them, and afterwards seized by the Spaniards.
Capt. U. saw an extract of a letter from Commodore Decatur to the American consul at Gibraltar, requesting him to notify the Americans of the conclusion of the war, and that they could navigate the Mediterranean in safety."
