A STARTLING CHARGE.

It Is Said the Police Are Willfully Letting Fleesey Escape.

At six o'clock mass in the Church of Our Lady of Grace, in Hoboken, yesterday, Father Corrigan took the Hoboken police to task for neglecting to capture Fleesey, the murderer of Denning. He said the police were suspiciously inactive and guilty of neglect of duty. At half-past four o'clock on the morning of May 25 Denning was murdered outside of the saloon at the corner of Second street and Willow avenue. It is said that he was struck on the head with a piece of solder in the hands of Fleesey. Policeman Seibert was summoned and found Denning unconscious and sent for an ambulance. All the while, according to the sworn statement of Bradbury, the bartender, Fleesey was standing at the corner of First street and Willow avenue, one block away and no attempt was made to arrest him. As late as half-past seven o'clock Fleesey was seen on River street. Denning was alive at the time, but his death was momentarily expected. At nine o'clock Sunday night it is said Fleesey was still in Hoboken. This was eight hours after the death of Denning. Fleesey has rich and influential friends, who will provide for him. All the rest of the family are eminently respectable and feel keenly the disgrace which has fallen on one of its members. It is not believed that Fleesey will ever be captured. Tonight Coroner O'Hara and a jury will continue the inquest into Denning's death. County Physician Converse will testify as to what was the immediate cause of death.
