Full Text

Prof. Koebele has gone up into the

Kailiili woods, in the region of Hocking's

old saw mill, to study the "Olinda

bug." While it is doing great damage

to the koa trees, its ravages are most

apparent in the wattle trees. It seems

to begin at the outer end of the leaf or

stem and work towards the trunk of

the tree. While this beetle is doing

much damage to the koa trees, the

worst and most active enemy of the

koa just at present is a little white

worm which attacks the tree at the

junction of the tender twigs with the

larger branches.

Young trees suffer

most. Thousands of these have been

killed already.
