Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Wiprud and children came back the first of the week from a trip to the coast beyond Portland, Ore., and now Dr. Wiprud has a fishing story that puts all local fishermen to shame. The Doctor and Mrs. Wiprud spent much of the time in deep sea fishing and the Doctor caught a shark that measured from five to six feet long. The shark put up a terrific fight and it was impossible to kill it before pulling it aboard. The captain was unwilling to pull the live shark onto the ship inasmuch as there were several fishermen on the small boat and he was afraid someone might be injured. The Wipruds caught a number of fine, large salmon besides the encounter with the shark.
The boat from which they fished went out from five to six miles from shore and then cruised about. There was much to interest one, Mrs. Wiprud reports. They saw three whales sporting around and large numbers of sharks. To add to the interest, another fishing boat became disabled and the Wiprud's boat had to tow it into harbor. All in all it was a most delightful vacation, says Mrs. Wiprud, and they are already looking forward to another trip next year.
The Wipruds were accompanied home by a niece, Miss Jacqueline Stone of Portland, who will visit here.
