Full Text

The correspondent of the Avalanche writing from Arkansas to the effect that the government owes our State $60,000 for swamp and overflowed lands. ceded by the government to this State and afterwards erroneously sold by the government, is laboring under a mistake. The United States never owned a foot of any kind of land in Tennessee; hence the provisions of the Act of September 28, 1850, although extended to all States, conferred no benefits on our State. This matter has some time since been thoroughly investigated by an attorney of this city.
