Large Statewide Audience Attends Saturday Night Event
The Fashionetta, featuring the internationally known model, Miss Dorothea Towles, the first American Negro woman to appear in Paris Salons as a model for famous French designers, and presented by Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, at the Masonic Temple here Saturday night was a brilliant success.
A large statewide audience attended the Saturday night event. You saw and applauded Miss Towles, who was ably assisted by a group of local models, as she presented the latest in Paris creations for the chic and well dressed woman. Included in Miss Towles presentation were creations by Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy and Pierre Balmain, among them a

Included in the evenings presentations were: also models of the latest in fashion for the teen-age group, children, and the pre-school age group, with modeling by children from the local community.
Miss Willeva Lindsey, of Yazoo City was crowned "Miss Fashionetta" of 1959, with the second place in the contest going to Miss Delores Simpson, of Jackson; Miss Phyllis Woullard of Canton was crowned "Miss Junior Fashionetta" of 1959, and Little Miss Margaret Alexander, of Jackson was crowned Miss "Baby Fashionetta" of 1959.
The adult models assisting in the program were Mrs. Ethel Farrier, Mrs. Janie Fulton, Mrs. Doris Greene, Mrs. Lula Belle Forte, Mrs. Argie Shannon Wells, Miss Melverline Archie, Miss Janet Baker, Miss Joyce Thomas, Miss Esther Rose Cameron, Miss Carolyn Hanna, Miss Mary Lee Porter, Miss Willeva Lindsey, Mrs. Dorothy R. Martin, Mrs. Allyne Lockhart, Mrs. Luela Bender Tapoe, Miss Deloris Jefferson, Miss Gloria Simpson, Miss Joria Steele, Miss Ruth Thompson, Miss Johnnie Ruth McClain, Miss Willie T. Marshall, Miss Eva Lou Thomas, Miss Delores Simpson.
