Rain Gladly Received By Farmers Here

Farmers throughout this section were rejoicing today over the best rain they have experienced in a month, and most of them were busy transplanting tobacco in the growing fields if they had not already completed that job, and few had.

Beginning with a heavy shower Monday afternoon, a drizzle set in that continued intermittently all night and was still this afternoon furnishing the moisture so much needed.

Northern and western parts of the county appeared not to have received such generous rains as did other localities.

There was enough rain to provide a season for setting tobacco, however, and many growers ignored the steady showers to get ahead in setting their tobacco. The rain had not been sufficient to penetrate very deeply into the soil, and some deep plowing turned up dry dirt in places.
