Full Text
A minister in a nearby town was approached by the head of a land company, who stated that the company would erect a $5,000 building on their lands and turn it over to the denomination the minister represented if the latter would have a resident pastor provided. "And why all this generosity, and where are our people?" said the minister. It was explained that the company desired to spread pictures of the church broadcast over the country where this religion was strongest, thus representing to the prospective home-seeker that there were hundreds of people of their faith worshiping at this church. They would therefore be induced to yield up their coin for a first payment on a tract, later burning their bridges and coming to their new home to find it far off the beaten track and themselves practically buried. The proposition of the land company, we are glad to say, was flatly turned down. Misrepresentation is doing Florida much harm. The truth is good enough: the lands are here, both good and bad, as in every other State, but it behooves the prospective settler to come and take a look and not make a final selection from maps, charts and pictures. See the real thing. And Florida will gain a satisfied citizen and the newcomer a good income and will in turn be one of the State's best boosters.
