PICTURE of the TIMES.

MERIT neglected--religion and virtue at a low ebb--public good giving place to private emolument--our money exhausted for foreign superfluities--some peoples heads like the ancient sepulchres--our sons growing effeminate--people blind to their own foibles and true interest--no profusion of liberal sentiments--to be supercilious, a great accomplishment--our trade decaying and the fish at rest--great strivings about pre-eminence--moles (as usual) working in the dark--the head of the snake (influenced by the heart and the tail) at play with both--the iniquitous practice (with some dealers) of two prices for the same article; whereby the labourer is induced to indolence, and the mechanick to fraud--pride, idleness and poverty triumphant--self predominant and publick spirit asleep--the men at mast-head in danger from those below--the press in shackles (in a sister state.)
