Girl Drowns In Irrigation Ditch

FRESNO, Cal., July 15.--Stumbling over the inert body of his five year old sister on the bottom of an irrigation ditch near here, Conrad Smith, 10, dragged her to the bank and called the fire department rescue squad in a vain attempt to save her life.
The child, Florence Smith, disappeared suddenly while the children were splashing in a shallow ditch yesterday. Apparently she was dead when taken from the water. The rescue squad worked over the child for three hours.
