Full Text

Mr. L. E. Woodard was detained at home Monday evening by his family for reasons unknown to him and at 8 o'clock he was surprised by seeing his parlors filled with stationary engineers. Mr. A. Jackson made some very appropriate remarks by way of an introduction. Then the president, Mr. Ed. Gutley, of Vernon, took the floor and said the object of the U.A.S.E. was to promote a more thorough knowledge in its members of theoretical and practical steam engineering; and believing that ability will bring its full value in this country, this order shall at no time participate in strikes or interfere in any way between employer and employee; recognizing their identity of interest it shall take no part in any project or enterprise that shall interfere with perfect harmony between them. We make our order a school in which our members may study the higher branches of steam engineering. Now, Mr. Woodard, I wish to thank you in behalf of the lodge and present you this cane as a token of esteem for what you have done to help us and also to make you an honorary member of our lodge. Mr. Woodard, with some very good remarks, thanked them for their kindness and the engineers, wishing him success, went to their hall.

A GUEST.
