THE BRITISH EXPEDITION.

Capt. Prince, at Salem, from Elsineur, left that place on the 12th of August. The commander of the British fleet had demanded the delivery of the Island of Zealand into his possession. Several letters had passed between the admiral and the Crown Prince. The latter had finally answered, that he would not give up the Island while there was a man living to defend it. An immediate attack was expected; and on the 13th of August, when capt. P. was coming to sea, a heavy firing was heard.

The Island of Zealand is 60 miles broad & as many in length. Copenhagen is the capital--contains about 60,000 inhabitants, and is well fortified. Elsineur is on the same island, 20 miles N. of Copenhagen--contains about 6000 inhabitants.
