Newspaper opposing the move editorially include the Atlanta Journal, World, Macon News and many others. Labor organizations have assailed the subterfuge. An official statement issued by the State Board of the League of Women Voters has expressed concern over the proposed legislative changes in Georgia. Other civic, labor and voter groups have expressed equal concern over the bill.

Also facing the legislature is the bill to abolish the Georgia Citizens Council. Fighting to save the measure is Sen. Roy Le Crow, who has had hundreds of telegrams urging that the Council be retained. Another bill on the calendar this week is one to extend the secret ballot to every county in Georgia. Talmadge supporters are seeking to circumvent the ruling of a three-judge Federal court in Alabama on the Boswell Amendment. By rewording the language and eliminating references to race, color and subterfuge some legislators hope to bar Negroes from the polls. Only one bill has been passed by the Legislature so far and this measure permitted the Secretary of State to have custody of records of the Governor's office.
