New Definition of Freedom.
Gov. Hamilton, of Texas. in an address to the Freedmen, delivers himself of a new definition of Freedom. Our opinion is that the Governor would be pleased to have some superior power compel him to conform alone to his idea of Freedom. as merely the right to labor. Hear the learned Governor :
" Freedom means for you that you have the right to labor for an honest living; the right to obey the great command of God to all men, to earn, in the sweat of their face, their daily bread; the right to work for yourselves and receive the full reward of your labor. This is all that Freedom means for any people."
According to the above, the slaves have been the only ones to have freedom, while the whites of the South have been totally neglectful of their rights, (freedom) for lo! these many years.
