A second successful trial of Bonnelli's Locomotive Electric Telegraph was conducted on the Turin Railway. Two trains on a five-mile track exchanged communications, and stations received satisfactory correspondence. Orders to stop and proceed were obeyed. Morse's compact apparatus was used, with wires trailing on insulated iron rods. The inventor, Director of Sardinian Telegraphs, submitted a project for expanding submarine lines from Genoa via Corsica, Sardinia, Malta to Constantinople and the Black Sea, to be proposed to Atlantic electricians.
