To Register at U. of A.
More than 700 students are expected for the fall semester at the University of Alaska, according to Mrs. Laura Jones, registrar.
Registration for 417 new students will be on Sept. 10 and registration for some 300 students who attended the University last year will be on Sept. 11. Mrs. Jones said.
At this time in 1958, 279 students had been accepted and, in 1957. 205 students were enrolled at this date, Mrs. Jones added.
The added enrollment indicates the growing stature of the University of Alaska and the broadening fields of studies it is offering to Alaskans and other students.
Of the 417 new students, 253 are from Alaska, 154 are from other states, and 10 are from other countries. 248 will enter as freshmen, 81 will enter other undergraduate classes, 42 will register as graduate students, 7 will be special students and 39 are scheduled to register in other specialized ways. 311 are men and 106 are women. Of the men, 162 of the freshmen are non-veterans and 14 are veterans of military service.
Classes will begin Sept. 16 and the last day for late registration is Sept. 30, Mrs. Jones stated.
