MINA, Nev., Dec. 3.—If there was ever any question of the magnitude and importance of the recent strike made on the 1905 claim of the Davenport Independent Mining company's estate at Douglass, it being rapidly dispelled for with every foot of depth the ledge is opening up and proving of greater dimensions. It is close to five feet in width, will mill better than $50 per ton. Being gold and absolutely free milling it is an ideal proposition for a stamp mill. Parties competent to judge fairly through years of familiarity with the mines of the Douglass camp, have no hesitancy in stating that the strike is one of the greatest high grade milling propositions ever made in the history of the camp. A force of men under the personal supervision of Manager Gus Priess, is pushing development on the ledge with a view of ascertaining the extent of the ore bodies. Work has also been started on a double compartment shaft at another point on the same estate, which, we understand, will be sunk to a depth of several hundred feet and used as the main working shaft. Crosscuts will be run from this and will open up a number of the ledges which outcrop strongly on the surface. This will allow a thorough exploration of the property at depth, in an economical manner, and enable the company to proceed to install a mill in an intelligent manner, to handle their ore output. The management is to be commended for this safe and sane method of mining, for in too many instances mills have been installed before the property had been sufficiently developed to justify one, thereby giving the district or camp a set-back from which it took years to recover.
