Full Text

A Hoax.—The report of a riot at the Red Oak settlement, near Georgetown, Ohio, turns out to be a hoax. We agree with the Cincinnati Gazette, that "we would rather be hoaxed fifty times over in this, and almost any other subject, than have such a terrible reality occur on our soil."

The "Telegraph Extra" containing the hoax appears to have been extensively circulated, and the getters up of it deserve to take the places of the runaways who fled to the riot—happily only one paper.—Cleveland Herald.
