We learn from Georgia, that the Sloop seen off this bar, by our pilots, proves to be a French privateer of 8 carriage guns
On the 7th past he took Capt. Bradford, in a schooner from Boston for this Port, about 7 leagues north of this bar; while he was on board he took a small sloop and sunk her and being in want of provisions, went for Augustine, where he is partly owned. ...Capt. Bradford was put ashore on Cumberland island, whence he got to Savannah about ten days ago. The said privateer likewise took a schooner with dry goods, one Grimes, master, out of Chesapeake bay, and Sent her for Augustine, but not being able to make the port, they delivered her to Capt. Grimes, who carried her into Savannah in Georgia.
This is the Privateer mentioned some time ago that engaged a Brig from Philadelphia off the Capes of Delaware, which killed the Captain of the Privateer: She afterwards proceeded up Chesapeake Bay. and took a Schooner with a valuable Cargo of dry Goods, & intended to plunder a Plantation there, but being discover'd, she returned to St. Augustine; on her Way he took Captain Bradford, &c.
