OPENBURG, N. Y., Feb. 19. The small pox has been brought to this village, and the inhabitants are well nigh frightened out of their wits. A young man named Deckelman came home from a New York hospital with the disease before his sores had entirely healed, and wearing his old clothes. His little three-year old sister caught the disease, and after a brief illness died. A brother of Deckelman also caught the disease, and is now seriously ill. A neighbor's daughter, named Sheathabher, died a few days ago from the disease. The infected premises are quarantined, and the greatest excitement prevails. The hospital authorities in New York are severely condemned for allowing young Deckelman to leave the hospital until the danger of catching the disease from him was past, and for allowing him to wear his old clothes, which were undoubtedly infected.
