Brief Services Honor GI Dead
In a short, but solemn services at Lakeview cemetery, former members of the 442nd Combat Team and members of the Gold Star Parents last Sunday observed the fifth anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge Mountains in which the 100th Battalion and the 3rd Battalion of the 442nd Combat Team rescued the Lost Texas Battalion during the Bruyeres campaign in southern France.
Those from Seattle and vicinity who fell in the Bruyeres campaign were Hideo Yasui, Robert Endo, John Hashimoto, Masao Ikeda, Jero Kanetomi, Yoshio Kato, Ban Ninomiya, Yoshito Noritake, Ned Nakamura, Yohei Sagami, Toll Seike, Masao Shigemura and Takaaki Okazaki.
Lefty Ichihara, NvC chaplain, was in charge of the program which consisted of short addresses by Richard Setsuda, NvC chairman, and Seiichi Hara, of the Gold Star Parents and Widows. Laying of the wreaths at the base of the Nisei War Memorial was followed with taps by Mas Tomita.
