SHOT.--Ted. Whitfield received a severe wound on the right side of the head, on Wednesday last, by the accidental explosion of a shot-gun. Mr. S. Montgomery and Whitfield went over the river into Benton county, on the morning in question, in a buggy drawn by two horses, the latter having his shot-gun along. On returning, Ted. holding the gun between his legs, butt of the gun on the bottom of the buggy, while going over a very rough piece of road, the piece was exploded, the contents of one barrel striking Ted. in the right side of the face just below the ear, tearing off a portion of the ear and a large amount of flesh from the scalp. Mr. Montgomery took Whitfield in his arms and held him until he reached Dr. Plummer's drug store in this city, where immediate attention was given him by Dr. Plummer. Dr. Plummer informs us to-day (Wednesday) that he thinks the skull was not fractured by the shot, and the only danger to be feared is from concussion. But Ted. will carry an ugly scar the balance of his life. It was a close call, sure, for had the buggy not been on a side-hill, throwing the muzzle of the gun to the right, the load would have struck him immediately under the chin, probably tearing off his whole head.
