Jury Returns 29 Indictments Two Men Plead Guilty To Charges. Draw Prison Terms From Ferguson

EDINBURG, Sept. 6,-(Spl)—

Two defendants indicted by the September term of Hidalgo county grand jury as it recessed here Tuesday afternoon entered pleas of guilty before Criminal District Judge Bryce Ferguson today and were assessed penitentiary terms.

The two men, Albert Cavazos and Eli Quiroga, both residents of the San Jose ranch north of Mercedes, were named in five of 29 indictments returned by the grand jury.

Cavazos, charged in one indictment with burglary and in two with cattle theft, was sentenced to three years on each of the three charges, terms to run concurrently.

Quiroga, charged in two indictments with cattle theft was sentenced to two years in each case, terms to run concurrently.

Both men were indicted in connection with the butchering of cattle belonging to H. W. Allen, Mercedes, in 1938. Cavazos was also indicted for the burglary of the Peccock cafe near the San Jose ranch.

Of the 29 indictments returned by the grand jury, six charged possession of Marihuana, seven cattle theft, 12 burglary, one assault with intent to murder, one driving while intoxicated, and one forgery.

I. J. Lowry, former McAllen deputy constable, was indicted for assault with intent to murder in connection with a shooting in Donna last week in which Joe Rodriguez Donna garage operator, suffered a minor bullet wound in the leg.

Others indicted Tuesday include Alberto Amador, four charges of burglary; Rafael Ramirez; cattle theft: Audrey M. Orman, forgery; Federico Zapata, cattle theft; Teodoro Morales, burglary; Aurelio Zapata, horse theft; George Herrera, burglary; Francisco Vargas, marijuana; Magdaleno Ortiz, marijuana; Alonzo Balderas, marijuana; H.B. Brooks, driving while intoxicated; Willie Mungua, two charges of burglary; Cesario Carmona, two charges of burglary; Ernesto Cantu, marijuana, Merced Villalva, marijuana. Adolfo Chavez, marijuana, Nedrick Acres, burglary; and Pablo Trevino, cattle theft.
