Portland, Monday, January 7, 1805.
We have again to apologise for the unfavorable appearance of the Gazette: but trust we shall receive a supply of paper before next week, of our usual size and quality.
While we cordially present our patrons with the compliments of the season, and express our gratitude for a continued increase of subscribers, we must remind those who are several years, or even one year, in arrears, that it is time to settle up their newspaper bills. And as it is the season for wishing, we must earnestly wish, that every delinquent on our books may pay up his bill immediately. This wish is rational, and we trust will be complied with by every rational subscriber.
Those indebted for Advertisements are requested to discharge their bills. As the Gazette circulates in most of the States in the union, and in nearly 2000 families, it is presumed advertisers will deem these small sums too well appropriated, to withhold them from the publisher.
