Tombstone Remains County Seat of Old Cochise

TO ONE SITTING ON The Fence Bisbee's Big Nine Million Dollars Look Like 30 Cents

The investigation of the court house removal petition now on file in the supervisor's office, reveals a woeful lack of both signatures of eligible electors and sufficient property valuation.

At a late hour this afternoon, the results obtained show that the total property valuation of the county is placed at $19,357,669. Of this, however, the corporation and bullion tax represents the sum of $14,281,951 while widows' and church property figure $1,610,882. Eliminating these items, which are unquestionably excluded from consideration, the figures on the petition stand as follows:

Real estate. .. $ 624,452.58
Corporations.......3,884,685.95
Total $4,509,138.51

These figures are short over $2,000,000 from the required valuation, and the contention on this point alone will effectually kill the removal bugaboo.
