With this number commences the third volume of our paper. Two full years have elapsed since its establishment, notwithstanding no less a prophet than Mr. John Holmes, declared that it was to breathe its last on the 10th of September, 1821! It still lives and flourishes, and its prospects brighten with each successive week. And Why? It has espoused the cause of the people, and "waged eternal war" with demagogues and political intriguers. We have denied the right of Gen. King, or Mr. Holmes to sell their fellow citizens to Mr. Crawford, in exchange for offices; and we have thus far detected and exposed the tricks and management of those gentlemen and their agents to accomplish their ambitious purposes. The cause we advocate, is that of "the many" in opposition to the few.
base designs of "the few." The people have therefore liberally supported us, even exceeding our most sanguine expectations and we doubt not they will continue that support so long as our paper shall maintain their righteous cause.
