Couldn't Raise a Cheer.
When the soldiers arrived last Sunday night at Marion, a squad of Abolition ladies waved their handkerchiefs and sung out in a squeaking, cracked pot metal voice, "Three cheers for Brough!" "Three cheers for Brough!" The soldiers took no notice of it, and the only response we heard came from several of them, who, with lusty lungs, remarked: "D--n Brough--he charged us full fare on his road, when other roads carried us for half fare."
The reply was as laconic as truthful.
