Pierre.--Since the organization of the South Dakota supreme court November 21, 1889, there have been eight different judges on the bench, beginning with Judges Dighton Corson, A. G. Kellam and John F. Bennett, at the time there were but three members of the court. Out of the eight men who have sat on the supreme bench, three, Judges Bennett, Kellam and Fuller are dead. The first break in the original line up of the court was by the death of Judge Bennett, and the vacancy caused by his death was filled by the appointment of Judge Fuller, from the sixth circuit bench; the next vacancy was by the resignation of Judge Kellam, which was filled by the appointment of Judge Haney, trial judge from the fourth circuit. The next vacancy was by the death of Judge Fuller, which was filled by the appointment of Trial Judge C. S. Whiting, of the ninth circuit.
