The Rebel Army on the Potomac.—A correspondent of the New York Herald estimates the rebel army on the Potomac at 175,000 effective men. The center is at Centreville, which is very strongly fortified, and is under the immediate command of Beauregard. The right wing extends to Occoquan, and numbers 75,000 men. The left wing under the command of Gen. Evans and Gen. Jackson, extends to Leesburg and Martinsburg, and is 25,000 strong, and can be immediately reinforced from the main body. This wing has now the duty of preventing Gen. Lander from opening the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, and thus far has succeeded, Gen. Lander's force being much inferior in numbers. It is thought probable that, if our troops persist in an effort to open communication West by means of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, a general engagement may be brought on in that vicinity. The rebels, except their left wing, are apparently preparing to spend the winter in their present positions.
