THE BUILDING TRADES STRIKE.

Federation Officers Seeking to Restore Peace in Chicago.

CHICAGO, July 26.—Representatives from the Executive Council of the American Federation of Labor, comprising President Gompers, Vice President James Duncan, and Sixth Vice President Thomas I. Kidd are here in conference with President Carroll and Secretary E. A. Davis, of the Building Trades Council, and Fred Fougeot business agent of the Sheet Metal Workers' Union, at the Briggs House. They will endeavor to reach some settlement of the present strike of the Building Trades Union men.

President Gompers intimated that, after the conference with the delegation from the Building Trades Council, an effort would be made to secure a conference with the officials of the Building Contractors' Council.
