From South-Carolina we have the following Narrative, on the Oath of John Gardiner.

June the 12th, I arrived at Heehoe, where I was received by the Indians with a great deal of Civility. The 15th I arrived at Checowee, where I left all my Horses to the Number of 17. with 2 Colts: the 16th I lay in the Woods: the 17th came to Toree: the 18th in the Mountains; the 19th where Mr. Bunning trades; and the 20th in the Mountains: the 21st at great Tellicoe, till receiving great Civilities from the Indians; the 22d at Tannaa, where the People received me with great Joy, and carried me immediately to the King's House, where I was treated with several Dishes of Victuals; from thence I was carried to the Prince's, where there was a House provided for me and my People. In the Evening I went to the King again, where I saw a Frenchman the Cherokees had taken in War, being informed at the same Time they had killed Four of the same sort of People, and had taken several Bags of Powder, Bullets, Guns and Wearing Apparel, with several Pocket-Compasses.

The Frenchman gave us an Account that, above Two Months before he was taken, he had been to the Chickasaws, in Company with One Hundred Men of his own Country People, and many of the Nantaurs, to War: that the Chickasaws had killed 69 Frenchmen, and several of the Indians, he himself being shot thro' the Leg.

From thence to the 26th nothing remarkable, only this, the Nantaurs shot at our People as they were hoeing Corn, and killed a Woman, and one of us being near his Gun, catch'd it up and shot after them as they ran off, and broke one of their Backs, who finding he was in no Condition to escape, drew his Knife and stabb'd himself upon which our People brought in his Head, Hands, and several Pieces of his Flesh, &c.
