VICHY, France, Sept. 7. (UP)—The government of Premier Marshal Henri Philippe Petain, under terms of the armistice, has turned over Herschel Grynszpan, assassin of a German diplomat, to the German military authorities, it was disclosed today.
Grynszpan, a Polish Jew whose act was given as an excuse for violent anti-Semitic activities in Germany in 1938, was taken immediately to Germany by automobile, escorted by armed police.
French authorities said they had no idea of what happened to him in Germany.
Grynszpan assassinated Ernst Von Rath, a secretary of the German embassy in Paris, after receiving word of hardships his relatives had suffered in the Reich.
He had not been brought to trial when the war started, although funds had been raised in America for his defense.
