ALABAMA ELECTION.
Office of the Chronicle,
Mobile, August 10.
The elections took place throughout the State on Monday, the 7th inst. The full returns from the Governor's and Congressional elections, will come in slowly, and we cannot venture in the present unsettled state of the public mind, to predict the result. We hope, however, that the Whig candidate for Governor will succeed, and feel certain of a majority of Whig members for Congress.
In this county, the election did not turn upon national politics, there being a great many county elections for Clerks, Sheriff, &c., which had a commanding influence upon the other elections. For members of the Legislature, one of each party is elected, Gen. Joseph Bates, whig, and Gen. T. L. Toulmin, Van Buren.
We hope on Saturday to be able to give the full returns from the several precincts of this county, which can only be interesting to those at home.
Gen. Wm. Taylor has been elected Clerk of the County Court, and Mr. J. McRae Clerk of the Circuit Court of Mobile County
Wm. Magee has been elected Sheriff of Mobile County.
