The principal object of the organization, which held its last general convention in New York in 1869, seems to be to fight and pray against the advance of Romanism and infidelity. The executive committee of this association has set apart the present week as a week of prayer, and has suggested subjects for prayer for each day of the week.
For Sunday, Jan. 5th, the subject was Christian Union.
Monday, Jan. 6th - Thanksgiving.
Tuesday, Jan. 7th - The Church and its Ministers.
Wednesday, Jan. 8th - Christian Education.
Thursday, Jan. 9th - For Nation's rulers and people.
Friday, Jan. 10th - The Press.
Saturday, Jan. 11th - Missions.
It would seem particularly necessary at this time for such organizations as the above to make special efforts, for there is an opinion which is becoming very prevalent in all parts of the civilized world which is inconsistent with the doctrines taught by the Evangelical Alliance, and that is that any answer to prayer, no matter what it may be, must be in its very nature miraculous, and that miracles are not performed in answer to prayer, nor for any other reason.
