They were attack'd by Angria the Pyrate, having under his Command Five Grabs and Four Gallivats, about Four o'Clock at Noon: The first Shot Mr. Rogers, the Chief Mate, lost his Leg, and being unable to keep the Deck, was carried down to be dress'd, where the Captain went down to him, to know what he thought was proper to be done, who advis'd him to defend to the utmost the Properties with which he was intrusted: The Capt. accordingly went on Deck, and in a short Time the Mizen-Mast was shot away, and presently after the Main-Mast; he likewise receiv'd a Shot between Wind and Water, but that was soon stopp'd: The Capt. after about Six Hours Fight, order'd the Colours to be struck, which Mr. Burroughs, the third Mate, was against, desiring him to Fight her as long as she would swim; but the Capt. order'd them not to Fire a Gun at their Peril: When Angria saw the Colours struck, he order'd the Men to come in their Boats aboard his Grabs, which being done, his Men took Possession of the Darby, put their Men under the Hatches, and towed the Ship into one of their Harbours: Mr. Burroughs, and One or Two more, were upon their Parole of Honour, dispatch'd by Angria to Bombay, with Proposals of Peace to the Governor and Council: Mr. Rogers is since dead of his Wounds, Four or Five Men more were also killed, Six wounded, and 115 left Prisoners. The Richmond, Capt. Charles Gough, was then at Bombay, but was to sail for China, the Beginning of April.
