Democratic Newspapers.—It is the duty of democrats to support the democratic press. One reason why it is so hard to overturn the whig power in this state is that the party of monopoly and privilege controls almost all the papers. By their hold on the vast number of papers which are either openly whig or professedly neutral and secretly whig, they secure the avenues to the public mind, and by their onesided and perverted statements they poison it against democratic men and measures. Democrats should take papers which stand by popular rights and see that their circulation is increased and permanently secured.—Barre (Mass.) Gaz.
The above is equally true of New Hampshire. In a late number of our paper, we stated that there are now 17 federal papers in the State to 9 democratic. The latter may number the most subscribers on their subscription lists, but the federal papers—7 of which are published in manufacturing towns—receive a permanent and rich support from corporations in the way of advertising and job printing, worth perhaps double and treble all they can make from subscribers. "Money makes the mare go," and whig newspapers, too.
