Full Text
On last Sunday morning, July 6th, Rev. Edward O. Forney, a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and also of the Theological Seminary of the (German) Reformed Church, and, until a short time previous, a minister of the Reformed Congregation at Norristown, Pa., was received into the loving arms of our holy Mother, the Church. Mr. Forney, theologically, had belonged to the so-called Mercersburg school of thought, and was trained up intellectually and theologically under the influence of Drs. J. W. Nevin, Harbaugh, Gerhart, Higbee and Thomas G. Apple; and by these Protestant Theological Doctors, the first seeds of Catholic truth—so far as our knowledge extends—were implanted in his mind. He was regarded by the members of the sect which he has abandoned, as a young man of more than ordinary ability and promise. He was confessedly the most talented and eloquent Protestant preacher in Norristown.—Ibid.
