UNION BALL AT RICHMOND.—We are permitted to make the following extracts from a private letter from a gallant young New Yorker who is signal officer on board the United States steamer Currituck. It is dated on board that vessel in the Pamunky river, June 10:

"Among other evils of the rainy weather we have experienced is the delay in our advance upon Richmond; no possible chance being afforded us of working upon the most important part of the business in hand, namely, the building of a number of bridges across the Chickahominy river.

"The less people think about this army the better, for a couple of weeks at least. About that time the preparations for the 'grand Union ball in the city of Richmond will be completed and floor manager McClellan will then issue tickets for the fete, good only for those who are willing to take the oath of allegiance.

"As it would materially interfere with the arrangement on hand, no visitors will be allowed to inspect the decorations previous to the opening night. But gentlemen of well known taste have taken charge of the affair, and the public may rest assured that the tout ensemble will exceed in magnificence anything ever attempted before on this continent.

"As an evidence of the great liberality displayed by the management, I will mention that more than one hundred thousand auxiliaries have been engaged to give eclat to the affair.

"Several new scenes have been painted, among which, are views of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Hanover Court House, Fair Oaks, &c., and a splendid drop curtain is in course of preparation, which it will task the efforts of the artists to finish by the appointed time. The subject, Richmond, will be appreciated by a discerning public."
