GEDDES DECLARES U BOATS SUNK FAST AS BUILT

Special to the Nugget By Associated Press

LONDON, March 6.—That the present methods of protecting the shipping of England and America from the ravages of the German submarines and that the submarine defense fleets of the two nations are increasing the number of German losses steadily and now have every prospect of making the U boat campaign too costly for the Germans to continue, was the prominent statement in an address made by Sir Eric Geddes, First Lord of the Admiralty, before the House of Commons yesterday.

Geddes declared that England and America are now sinking the German submarines as fast as Germany is able to build them. Through the latest methods of offsetting the divers, the destruction of the underwater vessels has increased to an unprecedented degree, he declared, and the mercantile losses of the allies are continuing steadily downward.

Geddes told his auditors that the recent industrial disturbances in Germany have been partially responsible for the failure of the Germans to increase still further their production of submarines, through interfering with ship construction. Co-operation between England and America is as nearly complete as is possible to attain, he said and had produced an important increase in the military effectiveness of both nations.

Geddes concluded his statement by asserting that he allies defense fleets will soon be augmented by the addition of a war fleet sent by Brazil to assist the British and American patrol fleet.
