A melancholy event took place in the Delaware, about two miles below this city on the 8th instant.
As one of the Bloomsbury shallops, the Tryall, was returning from Philadelphia, in putting about, opposite Lamberton, the boom suddenly passed over the quarter deck and knocked overboard, the master, Mr. George Parker, of Bloomsbury, and one of the passengers, Mr. Sampson Crane, said to be an Englishman, and an inhabitant of Philadelphia. Neither, we understand, could swim, and both sunk before any assistance could be given them, and were drowned. The bodies were found about three o'clock the following morning. Both, we are informed have left young families, who chiefly depended upon their personal exertions for support and by whom this afflicting and melancholy dispensation of Providence will be severely felt.
