"To answer each and every calumny of every scoundrel who chooses to indulge in reckless falsehood against the prominent patriots who have stepped forward in defence of the rights of the States, would be endless. To defend (it says,) David J McCord from such accusations, arising from such a source, promulgated by such a paper, would indeed be a work of supererogation."
Another opportunity is thus afforded the Lieutenant, of displaying his warlike propensities. But, we advise him to let the Billingsgate pass, as unworthy his notice. The Telescope sees the cause of nullification perishing in the land of its birth—its abettors reserved for the fate of the Hartford Convention—and something ought to be indulged to the testy humor which these reflections naturally beget. It would be almost a pity that the Lieutenant should waste his distinguished valor on subjects already so much depressed by unpropitious fortune.
